Doing this because

A.) I always felt Donald Glover would be an awesome Flash
B.) Still want to see #sixseasonsandamovie
C.) Also want to see the Flash given a full season
D.) I don't give a flying rat's ass that Wally West is bi-racial now.  All the racist people need to calm down.

Just because people are against Wally being black doesn't mean they're racist. Wally is a character with decades of character building, and like any character, his personality is tied into his appearance. A lot of people have no problem with African American heroes, but see no reason to have Wally be black. Particularly when it's accompanied with having his back story entirely wiped, along with his relationships with Linda Park, his two children, and the Teen Titans.

I agree with you that wiping out his history was needless.  But I don't think his race should be an issue.  I'm not entirely sure how his personality is tied to his appearance?  So you're saying an African American can't say the things Wally said pre-52?

I might be the wrong person to be preaching to.. I'm of the opinion more classic characters should be diversified to be more representative of America.  If you give me an Asian Superman and an African American Batman, then you can make Black Lightning white for all I care.

“So you're saying an African American can't say the things Wally said pre-52?

Apparently he can’t, as he must be angry vandal that get arrested, or at least that’s what the comics suggest.

You see appearance is a factor, especially when it’s in bad taste. It wasn’t the artists idea and they handled it horribly. It looks like they used some kind of stock angry black kid design, and the change just magnifies just how different this new Wally character is.

In contrast you can just look how well theunbrilliant translated Wally as bi-racial, it looks so much more like…

So I’m firmly opposed to forcing a race change to a long established characters just to add diversity, you need the artists to have passion for the change and love the character. I would also have rather seen Static, African American and his own original hero, which makes him even more awesome.

I'm not talking about how he's actually written.  I agree, his personality isn't handled well in the new 52.  But if he was written exactly like the Wally we all know and love but just happened to be of a different race, I would have no problem with it. If Batman was written as Batman but was latino, I would have no problem with that. If Wonder Woman was Indian but was written well, I would have no problem with it. Sorry, I'm all for diversity in core characters.  Like I mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I'm probably the wrong person to ask for if that's not your thing.

Not precisely. Think of a character like you would a real person. If you've known them long enough, their physical appearance is equated in your brain with their personality, and changing their basic look can kind of short circuit how your brain recognizes them. Particularly if it changes how the face looks. Now, when casting someone to play a comic book character, you may have to ignore these changes. Grant Gustin, for example, doesn't look that much like Barry Allen, but plays him well enough that you can ignore the physical changes. And sometimes physical changes are for the better; giving Thor a beard after decades of being clean shaven made him look more like a Viking. And a lot of people depict Martian Manhunter's secret identity as black, even though in the comics he turned into a white man. But it's still just a little hard to think of Wally as being Wally when he doesn't look like Wally. You'd think he could at least have a similar hair-do.

Again, you're talking to the wrong guy.  As a kid collecting comics, I always wished classic characters were Asian like me.  At the time it didn't occur to me why most of the prominent comic characters were all white.  I would of given an arm and a leg if they made Superman Filipino.

Fair enough. I guess it's a case of conflicting interests. I do want to see more ethnic characters in comics, but, like a lot of comic readers, I tend to be resistant to change. I tend to prefer popular legacy characters getting ethnic iterations or seeing old ethnic characters get a publicity boost instead of straight-up race lifts. Like the new Ms. Marvel being Middle-Eastern or Cyborg becoming a prominent member of the Justice League. Though even there I wish they hadn't erased his personal history with the Titans to do so.
Though your comment does raise an interesting point. When they do do a race lift of a character, they do tend to make them african-american, instead of paying attention to other underrepresented subgroups like asians, hispanics, or native americans. What do you make of that?

I really want him to be Miles Morales, it's the most realistic thing I can see Fox going for. Like, in things they'd be willing to do you know.
