The Dark Knight Trilogy Epilogue: Mr. Freeze by kinjamin The Dark Knight Trilogy Epilogue: Mr. Freeze by kinjamin
So some people on on the internets criticized me for straying from the Nolan "formula".. (because you know, they're friends with him or something.) So in good faith, I decided to take that input and completely throw it out the window. Ha - they're reeeeeeaaaally going to hate this piece. I presented both the past Victor (that faced Bruce), and the future Victor that will eventually face the new Batman..

Some notes..

- All jokes aside, high-end robotics are not that far off. We live in an age where drones and Big Dogs exist. Robotics to assist the disabled is not just some pipe dream. That being said, all my reference to the robotic bits were from actual current day robot armatures. I didnít want to go the more sci-fi route and have pretty glowy panels everywhere (although thereís nothing wrong with that)

- Took a lot of cues from the animated series. Notably the 'Cold Comfort' episode where eventually, Victor isn't even human anymore.

- I know Nora survives in all her current incarnations, but I felt the tragedy of 'Heart of Ice' was that the viewer assumed Nora was dead (or was doomed regardless) - plus taking her out of the equation puts Victor on a spiraling downward path.

- Those are plastic prosthetics on Victor's jaw and ear. Took another cue from the concept art of Arkham City where pieces of Victor had fallen off from frostbite. They didn't go that route, but I liked the idea. And since this is a colder almost lifeless version of Freeze, I found it fitting.

- The 'nine' unconfirmed sightings of Batman is not some arbitrary number. I wanted to parallel the Twelve Labors of Heracles. (I'm counting the trilogy as three Labors.. hence there being nine Labors left).

- Really like the concept of the 2nd flashback panel where Bane is eerily looking at an almost mirror- image of himself in a deteriorating Fries. I ALMOST wanted to imply that future Mr. Freeze is not Victor - and is actually a preserved Bane using Victor's cryogenic tech. Oh I guess I just did. Ha! Kidding! Or am I?

Wanted to put this out on the day of the Blu-ray release of TDKR. But this is also kind of a holiday piece.. but I believe I have another one for Christmas next. Hopefully.

EDIT: I should also note that although I didn't realize it at first, I may have been inspired by ChasingArtwork's Gears version of Freeze.. [link]

I feel you also added aspects of the Great White Shark into your Fries. They both lost facial features to frostbite, and look similar.

Maybe subconsciously.  I love Arkham Asylum: Living Hell.   But my direct inspiration was the concept art for Arkham City... initially they wanted to remove Victor's nose to indicate it fell off because of frostbite.  Since they didn't use it, I went ahead and did it on mine.  somewhatnerdy.com/wp-content/u…

I'd say next to Two-Face, he'd be the one character that'd really push the reality factor. But still, very awesome.

I just realized the squiggly line on Freeze's chest in the first image somewhat resembles Mr Zero, the original Mister Freeze until he was revamped...

good catch! I didn't think anyone would notice that. That's the second reason.. the first was an actual cooling shirt that racers use... [link] <<-- which I found super goofy looking and initially wasn't going to include it. But then I saw what Mr. Zero used to look like and realized how perfect it was.

That's really cool that you imply this is how Batman got his one leg injured. Because while yes there is no cartilage in both he only had problems with one. Good job man, can't wait to see more. I wonder who the other eight villains are? o.O Lol

You've already replied back to me on my last comment (appreciated) but here's a backstory for Deathstroke from a Nolan Nightwing film I wrote: Deathstroke was the half brother of Ra's Al Ghul, they had a deep hatred for one another ever since they found out that Ra's' father raped Slades mother. Both Slades and Ra's mothers knew the truth because Slades mother was her sister. Slades mother gave him to Ra's' parents because she knew that they could provide him with protection and security. Growing up Slade and Ra's trained and fought together, but the final duel was when Ra's threw in his face what his father did to his mother, 'causing Slade to lunge at him, which led to another fight. The fight ended with Ra's jabbing a knife into Slades eye, 'causing Slade to leave his "family". Slade spent years travelling, training. Until he came across the city of Gotham, around the time TDKR took place. He saw what a very good friend of his from earlier on did, Bane. Alongside his beloved Half-Niece, whom he called his little Talia, the only member of the Al Ghul family he ever truly felt anything for. When she had faked her own death in the truck scene, Slade carried her to safety, and swore to watch over her and the child (throwing in your epilogue to make it seem more realistic). Years later when Talia was far more capable of caring for the baby on her own, Slade led a charge to Gotham City, with no intention of killing it to make it better, he just wanted to burn the city. Setting up two of Gotham's notorious rival gangs, the Sionis family and the remaining heirs of the Falcone family into a giant gangwar which would kill thousands in the process, until it is thwarted by Nightwing, Lieutenant Barbara Gordon, James Gordon, a rookie officer named Hector. From then on, Nightwing and Deathstroke become mortal enemies. In a new draft I wrote it features your backstory for Talia and the baby (hope you don't care, if you do just say so) but I threw in Shiva into the mix.

Let me know what you thought!

I absolutely love your 'Dark Knight trilogy Epilogue' series, but if you take requests, please hear mine out. Could you maybe do either a Deathstroke, Deadshot, Riddler, or Penguin epilogue? Deathstroke mainly considering he is an arch nemesis of Robin/Nightwing and could easily fit into a League of Shadows backstory.

I agree with you on Deathstroke -- and would love to make him the arch-enemy. But haven't thought of a good take yet. Trying to think of one for Penguin. Riddler is a definite in the future.

For Penguin he could be an escapee from Scarecrow's breakout who forms a group of gangsters and there is another unconfirmed sighting.

Must have more. That is a very interesting take on the origins of Victor. Since you've done three heroes and three villains, (I count Damian as a hero) why not have an Azrael that ties into Damian's back story and Bruce's as well.

Is this going to be an ongoing project or are you finishing up? (hopefully ongoing) if it is I have some more ideas for unconfirmed sightings you might like:
Penguin: A criminal who escaped with Dr. Crane's breakout and stayed out and then created a group of criminals who wanted to take down Batman.
Killer Croc: A former jazz musician and wrestler who took on crime fighting with the alias of "The Killer Croc." Then when he by mistake killed a man and Batman tried to beat him up and he became a criminal.
Ventriliquist: A Librarian who went to Arkham to deal with his multiple-personality syndrome but when he finds a pupped to channel his anger through he becomes a bank robber.
Will you do Riddler I saw him in your comic cover but im not sure if you'll make an origin story for him...

uhh i have ideas thatll take me like.. months to put out haha. So it's kind of ongoing. Definitely have a Riddler idea. Penguin & Croc I'd love to do but unfortunately my take is too similar to great interpretations that have been out recently (Arkham City for Ozzy, the Joker graphic novel for Croc) -- so I'm refraining until I have a better twist on it.

Also, if you do Deathstroke or Firefly will you follow the looks from the TDK toy-line?

I see nothing wrong with what you're doing and do not believe that any of these epilogues stray that far from Nolan's vision. Nolan does not hate Robin. If he did he wouldn't have had that reference to him at the end of TDKR. He didn't include him because he didn't fit into the story Nolan wanted to tell. That doesn't mean he hates the character. So this is good. You have no reason to believe that you have strayed from Nolan's vision.

Oh, and, here's a wishlist of who else I want to see:
Red Hood (I know John Blake has characteristics of Jason Todd, but still)
Red Robin (Same)
Poison Ivy
Deathstroke
Black Mask
Phantasm

I think I partly have you covered.. Have future plans to do Red Hood and Red Robin...

Poison Ivy is the next character study.

Actually had this idea of insinuating Rachel tried her hand at crime fighting for a night and was the Phantasm (simply because her and Andrea's story are similar) -- decided that might be to outlandish.
